Lawrence Frates
Lawrence (Larry) Frates is presently the Creative Arts Consultant and Teaching Artist at Prescott Farm Environmental Center in Laconia, New Hampshire.
He has spent the past 50+ years creating paintings in watercolor, acrylic and oils that represent a clean use of color in a semi-realistic style. His focus is on the essence of his subjects rather than a detailed representation of the images he presents to his viewers.
As a business person, he established the Frates Creative Arts Center in 1974 and it continued to flourish for seven years as Artist In Residence at the Historic Belknap Mill.
As an artist, his works have been exhibited at the Woodrow Wilson Gallery at the Smithsonian, Washington DC, Northern Illinois University, University of Massachusetts, during his Fulbright year in the Orkney Islands, Scotland.his works were shown at the Briggens Museum in Norway, the Getty Stromness Center in Orkney, Scotland, and the Central Bureau Gallery in London,
As an art educator, Larry has served as an Adjunct Fine Arts faculty member at University of Massachusetts, Amherst, MA, Southern NH University, Manchester,NH, Plymouth State University, NH, and NH Technical Institute. In addition he taught and directed art and integrated arts programs for 40 years in the Public Schools of MA and NH. He is presently working with community outreach programs in collaboration with the UPTURN ARTS Magic Classes and a Nature Inspires Art collaborative project between Prescott Farm in NH. and Galvez Garden in New Orleans.
